Date night: Porking Around!

In typical fashion, it is Friday night, the best night of the week if I say so myself! After working 12-hour work days, the husband and I decided we have an eat-out-in type of night. We opted for BBQ and a place called Slab BBQ located at 9012 Research Blvd Austin, TX 78758.

After mulling over the menu, we placed our order online and trekked our way through Austin to pick it up. Slab BBQ is housed within a strip mall. Parking is plentiful. You can’t miss it. Look for the neon sign or the cute pig statue right outside.

When you approach the to-go pickup counter, which is right at the bar, you can quickly pick up a jar of extra sauce! You know you kids like it extra saucy!

This BBQ is delicious! The vibe of the restaurant is a cool, laid-back place with fancy tasting food. Portions are big! I had the Texas Trill Sammy: Prime Angus brisket, sausage and rib meat topped with onions, pickles, jalapeños and Backyard Red on a jalapeño cheddar bun. T-A-S-T-Y!

My husband picked the Donk Sammy: 1 lb. sandwich stacked with every slab smoked meat available and topped with pickles, onions, jalapeños, queso, Fritos and all of our Slab BBQ sauces, also on a jalapeño cheddar bun. He killed it! Murdered it! D-E-D dead!

We also tried the Chicken W.A. Wrap: Slow-smoked natural chicken breast topped with mustard coleslaw, onions, Dank White, Backyard Red and Spicy Hot. This wrap was really smoky but the coleslaw cut the richness perfectly.

Sides we tried were potato salad and green bean casserole. The potato salad was nothing special, I felt it needed something more. Granted, I am used to a mustard-based potato salad and this one was mayonnaise based.  Green bean casserole was traditional tasting and I would definitely recommend it.

They have a nice selection of some traditional and non-traditional soda drinks.

Dessert was banana pudding! O-M-G! I am convinced the banana pudding alone is worth the trip to Slab BBQ. It is fully worth its price tag! Eat it! Eat it NOW! Start with the pudding and then end with the pudding again! Just look at that cute face cookie!

Overall, I see why this place is rated a 4.6! See for yourself, give it a go! What restaurant would you recommend in your city? Leave me a comment below!
